In a rare visit to the States, once-imprisoned Syrian writer Adonis, considered by many to be the most important Arab poet, will speak with celebrated American poet Jorie Graham. The first of the 2014 Master/Class series includes a special treat: award-winning translator and scholar Khaled Mattawa joins the conversation. His insights on the art and craft of translation—specifically as it relates to Adonis' work—adds an important layer to the discussion. This conversation will explore the lyrical and the analytical, the sensuous and the philosophical, and is sure to delight poets, translators, and readers alike.
Presented in association with The Public Theatre and co-sponsored by the French Cultural Services and PEN Translation Committee.
