Building Histories: Telling and Re-Telling

Founded by Dave Eggers, Mimi Lok, and Lola Vollen, Voice of Witness (VOW) is a San Francisco-based nonprofit whose acclaimed book series illuminates human rights crises through the oral histories of men and women most affected by them. To date, the series has covered a wide variety of contemporary issues, ranging from post-9/11 civil rights and the criminal justice system to the experiences of men and women living under oppressive regimes in Burma, Zimbabwe, and Colombia. This year they celebrate ten years of the series with the anthology The Voice of Witness Reader: Ten Years of Amplifying Unheard Voices, edited and with an introduction by Dave Eggers. Join co-founder Mimi Lok and managing editor Luke Gerwe to learn more about their work and what goes into creating a Voice of Witness book.

Advance copies of The Voice of Witness Reader will be on sale at the event.
