Jemele Hill is an Emmy Award–winning journalist, the co-founder of Lodge Freeway Media, and a contributing writer for The Atlantic. With a career spanning more than two decades, she has made an indelible mark on journalism, broadcasting, and podcasting, addressing critical issues at the intersection of sports, politics, and culture.
Hill is the author of Uphill: A Memoir (Henry Holt, 2022), a deeply personal account of her childhood, family dynamics, and path to journalism. Since 2018, she has written for The Atlantic on race, gender, culture, and politics.
She is the host of Jemele Hill Is Unbothered, a two-time Webby Award–winning podcast featuring conversations with leading figures across entertainment, politics, and culture. She also co-hosts The Wire: Way Down in the Hole with Van Lathan and launched the podcast Spolitics in 2024, exploring the intersection of sports and politics. That same year, she debuted Above the Fold with Jemele Hill on TruTV, a weekly sports magazine series.
Hill began her career at the Raleigh News & Observer, later working at the Detroit Free Press and Orlando Sentinel, where she became the only African American female sports columnist in North America. She joined ESPN in 2006, appearing across platforms including SportsCenter, First Take, and Outside the Lines, and later served as a senior columnist for The Undefeated.
