Betty Shamieh is a Palestinian American novelist and playwright. Her debut novel, Too Soon, was selected as a PEOPLE Magazine Book of the Week and an NPR Book of the Day and was named one of the Best Books of 2025 by The New Yorker and Oprah Daily. Too Soon is also a winner of a Golden Poppy Award and an Indie Next Pick.
An author of sixteen plays, her Off-Broadway premieres include Roar and Malvolio, a sequel to Twelfth Night, both of which were New York Times Critics’ Picks. Shamieh is currently the Mellon Playwright-in-Residence at the Classical Theatre of Harlem and is working on her next novel, The Masqueraders.
