Esperanza Hope Snyder is a writer born in Colombia. She is the author of the poetry collection Esperanza and Hope, two plays, The Back Room and Lullaby for George, and a novel, Orange Wine. Her co-translation (with Nancy Naomi Carlson) of Wendy Guerra’s poetry collection Delicates was recommended by The New York Times Book Review. Esperanza holds degrees from William & Mary, George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Manchester. After receiving tenure at Shepherd University, she chose to focus on her writing.
Honors include awards in poetry from the Community of Writers and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, as well as fellowships from The Gettysburg Review and The Kenyon Review. A former Assistant Director of Bread Loaf in Sicily and co-coordinator of the Lorca Prize, her new poetry collection, Mostly Blooming, will be released later this year.
