Justin Haynes is a writer born in Trinidad and Tobago who later moved to Brooklyn, New York, as a teenager. His writing has been supported by fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Tin House Summer Workshop, among others. His debut novel Ibis focuses on the migration crisis of Venezuelan refugees in the Caribbean, particularly in relation to Trinidad and Tobago. Ibis has been shortlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize and the PEN Open Book Award. Haynes lives in Atlanta, Georgia, where he teaches literature and creative writing at Oglethorpe University.
