WATCH LIVE: Yassmin Abdel-Magied and Amani Al-Khatahtbeh in conversation on Wednesday, April 18 at 5PM EST at penworldvoices.org and facebook.com/penamerican.

Yassmin Abdel-Magied was unable to enter the country as planned. The M Word: No Country for Young Muslim Women is now presented as an online only event at penworldvoices.org and facebook.com/penamerican.

In many western countries, being Muslim, young, and female brings with it a particularly heavy burden. Amani Al-Khatahtbeh was forced to leave America in the wake of relentless vilification and harassment post-9/11, and just last year Yassmin Abdel-Magied was hounded out of Australia by ferocious media and online attacks. They talk about how to survive and thrive in cultures that hate them. The M Word is a series funded by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art’s Building Bridges Program.
