Brandon is interested in CHANGE. Radical change! As a freshman at Richard R. Green High School of Teaching, they began The Equality League, a space for student to talk about and learn about social justice issues in the school. It started with a few students and now EQ meets weekly with over 12 students. EQ started off as a place for students to talk and learn and now is a place where students take action. Last year during a vision boarding course, Brandon made a vision board and focused on being a better activist. Since then they have led their team mates in fundraising for Hurricane Maria, creating an intergenerational event where students and teachers came together to talk about toxic masculinity, led over 150 students in organized school walkouts and so much more. Brandon was elected 11th grade president and is involved in so many community organizing events outside of school such as The Chancellors Student Advisory Council and NYU Youth Technical Assistance Center for addressing disproportionality. They have recently working with their Dream Director on a poetry project. Focusing on LGBTQIA+ issues, racial justice, and educational change, their activism is as intersectional as their identity being a queer Afro indigenous youth!
