Biography

Esther Allen’s most recent translation, the 1956 novel Zama by Antonio Di Benedetto (New York Review Books), was awarded the 2017 National Translation Award by the American Literary Translators Association. A professor at City University of New York, she co-founded the PEN World Voices Festival in 2005, and she is one of the organizers of “Translating the Future,” a major international conference that will take place in New York City in September 2020.
