Fatima Farheen Mirza was born and raised in the Bay Area and currently lives in Brooklyn. She began A Place for Us as an undergraduate at UC Riverside, where she received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Creative Achievement. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she was a Teaching-Writing Fellow and a recipient of the Michener-Copernicus fellowship. A Place for Us was an instant New York Times Bestseller and is being translated into eight languages. She is a Teaching Artist through the National Book Foundation’s Book Up program and currently teaches undergraduate fiction courses at NYU.
