Ishmael Beah’s first book, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, was a #1 New York Times bestseller and has been published in more than 40 languages. He is also a UNICEF Ambassador and Advocate for Children Affected by War and a member of the Human Rights Watch Children’s Rights Advisory Committee. His forthcoming book Little Family is on sale from Riverhead Books in April 2020.

The live events of the 2020 World Voices Festival have been canceled due to concerns about the safety of participants and audiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In early May, we launched the 2020 digital World Voices Festival at pen.org/worldvoicesdigital. This ongoing digital version of the Festival includes a suite of podcasts, videos, interviews, and musical playlists, with live events and other features to be rolled out over the coming weeks.
