Biography
Khaled Hosseini, the author of THE KITE RUNNER and other works, was born in Afghanistan. In 1980, he and his family were granted asylum in the U.S. after the outbreak of the Soviet war. Hosseini studied medicine in California and was a practicing internist when his first novel was published. He is the cofounder of The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, a 501c3 that delivers humanitarian aid to Afghan women and children. He has served since 2006 as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. He lives in northern California.
