Biography

Yazmin Monet Watkins is a poet, comedian, writer, actress, content creator, educator and activist. Touring her intimate yet political poetry from Obama’s White House to Johannesburg, and empowering students from Harvard to youth prisons, Watkins’ body of work weaves art and activism, exploring the intersection of race, gender, sexuality, self-love and all things Black Girl Magic. As an actress, Watkins is represented by United Talent Agency and creates with her all Black female comedy group Obama’s Other Daughters. Watkins serves on the Arts & Culture committee for Black Lives Matter Los Angeles. Once ‪Beyoncé‬ said she liked her hair.

The live events of the 2020 World Voices Festival have been canceled due to concerns about the safety of participants and audiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In early May, we launched the 2020 digital World Voices Festival at pen.org/worldvoicesdigital. This ongoing digital version of the Festival includes a suite of podcasts, videos, interviews, and musical playlists, with live events and other features to be rolled out over the coming weeks.
